Dressed in an off white gown similar to that of Marilyn Monroe's, Kat breezes through Carmen's Beauty Shop and takes a seat in the salon chair. There, Carmen, with a head full of magnetic rollers, covers Kat with a satiny cape that has a snap closure, and wraps a towel under the cape around Kat's neck. Cold cream is applied around Kat's hair line and ears to prevent bleach from irritating the skin. Carmen sections Kat's hair and brushes the bleach into the dark roots. Once the bleach has processed on the roots and taken a hold, Kat is brought back to the shampoo bowl for a rinse and conditioning.
Her cape is removed and a purple vinyl one worn in its place. After a brief towel drying, Kat's hair is once again sectioned off and wrapped around colorful magnetic rollers. Kat applies her own makeup as Carmen is setting her hair. To help keep the hair in curls, Carmen douses the rolled hair with hairspray. The cape is taken off and the pink hair net and ear protections are put in place before Kat goes under the vintage Swing Ring chair hair dryer for 33 minutes, reading a magazine and checking her phone at times. When the dryer time is up, Kat moves to the salon chair to have the rollers removed. Carmen drapes a pink comb-out cape around Kat's shoulders for the roller take out. Carmen finds a few curls that are still damp, so she pins them up with clips, covers Kat's head in a pink hair net, wraps a pink towel around Kat's shoulders, and then sticks Kat under the dryer for another 12 minutes.
Now that the hair is dried, Carmen brushes, combs, and styles Kat's hair into the hairstyle worn by Marilyn Monroe. Near the end of the styling, Carmen replaces the pink will-o-wisp comb-out cape with a lite pink satin one. After the Marilyn Monroe hairstyle is complete, the cape is removed, and Kat poses with her new look.
